| Legal academic societies, as instruments and media in the field of legal studies, played an important role in modern Chinese history. In the face of national crisis and the impact of western legal science, they undertook the mission of “saving the Chinese nation” and “developing the science of law” by giving play to their role as the media and performing their legal functions. Through the study of legal theories and exploration of legal issues, they tried to find a solution to the numerous problems in the fields of law and politics in China. In the Republic of China era, almost all legal academic societies had made great efforts to revitalize China, achieve the nationalization of law and establish “the new Chinese legal system”. Consequently, they had been the main force in the Sinicization of western law and the establishment of the modern law system at that time. |
