Nowadays the national identity crisis has become a global problem, especially in countries undergoing social transition. The direct cause of national identity crisis is that the primitive bonds supporting national identity are gradually fading away in the process of social transformation, yet no alternative political bond has been constructed in a timely and effective way to rebuild national identity. A feasible solution to this problem is to reconstruct national identity by taking the constitution as the bond and to promote the transition of national identity from the primitive identity based on history, culture and ethnicity to the constitutional identity based on citizenship and civil rights. The concrete method of implementing this solution is to shape identity through ideals, interests, procedures, and symbols, namely to strengthen national cohesiveness through the promotion of common political ideals established by the constitution, the protection of human rights, the improvement of the democratic system, and the establishment of the system of Constitutional Day and constitutional oath. |
